New free rock MP3 EP posted for download over at Too Late for Roses…

Hi Instar mail-list folks,

just wanted to let y’all know that Too Late for Roses has a nifty 3-song rock mp3 EP up for free download over at http://www.toolateforroses.com/ - you should swing by and pick it up (basically, just enter the email address you want the file sent to and hit ’submit’).

It’s a new band, new sound, and we hope you like it.  The last song on the EP, “The Satisfaction” was featured on the animated film “Masks”. More info at the TLFR website.

Oh, and TLFR has a show this Saturday in San Luis Obispo in case you live in the Central Coast CA area.

See you soon!

Hey, all the new stuff is over @ Too Late for Roses

Just a quick update, all the new content (music, photos, videos) is over at

http://www.toolateforroses.com (click to visit)

… including a video we made for a John Varvados competition, previews of songs from the new TLFR record, and photos from a back stage visit with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.

So, come on by and check it out…

The Last Instar Post

We’re done. Instar is dead, we killed it, it is burned. Now we mix the ashes with sunscreen and sand, saltpeter and fragments of abandoned betamax recorders, and pray to the voiceless stone gods of industry, waving our shiny new idol - Too Late for Roses.

Visit TLFR, won’t you?

Pat Smith / Instar Interview in LineBoil

Two quick things:

Check out the interview in LineBoil with Pat Smith about “Masks” - a great preview of the film, and how Pat and I threw out the film-maker’s rulebook in pursuit of something new…

Your brain! Give it to us!

So, we’re working on a new project, and want to know what you think of some band names!

Video Shoot - Day 1 photos

A long day this weekend shooting a video for “So Gone” from the upcoming album. Lots of ‘band-rocking-out’ footage with cool lights, shadows, contrast. We’re pretty stoked on the raw video - check out some stills below. Next we get to add the ’story’ parts of the video, and maybe some cool Bon Jovi-style ’swing out over the stadium on a steel cable’ shots. Or not.

Producing the Bluff Rats

It’s been a busy week - finishing vocals on the next Instar record, and doing basic tracking of the mighty Wadsworth Bluff Rats!

The first time pop music and TV really got it right.

Thanks to Hulu.com (freaking awesome blend of content I actually want to watch and a mild/tolerable amount of advertising - it’s really great - let’s see if the content providers can actually not fuck this up for once, please, for the Love of GOD - you idiots), I’ve been enjoying re-watching…Miami Vice!
